IIC MHRD’s interactive session

with his holiness Sri Sri Ravi Shankar Ji on “Rethinking Education-A Journey through inner Transformation”on 18/02/2021 at 10:30 am in Hall No.4.both the students of BA and BSc were present during the live session and participated more than 80 students along the interactive session.Shankar believes spirituality is that which enhances human values such as love, compassion and enthusiasm. It is not limited to any one religion or culture. Hence it is open to all people. He feels the spiritual bond we share as part of the human family is more prominent than nationality, gender, religion, profession, or other identities that separate us.

According to him, science and spirituality are linked and compatible, both springing from the urge to know. The question, "Who am I?" leads to spirituality; the question, "What is this?" leads to science. Emphasizing that joy is only available in the present moment, his stated vision is to create a world free of stress and violence. His programs are said to offer practical tools to help accomplish this. He sees breath as the link between body and mind, and a tool to relax the mind, emphasising the importance of both meditation/spiritual practice and service to others. In his view, "Truth is spherical rather than linear; so it has to be contradictory."

“Need to Restore and Revive Coastal Fisheries and Lively-hood by Habitat Restoration Programmes Farming and Orientation of Fishes: Importance of Coastal Ecosystems”

Date: 28/02/2022

Resource Person: Dr. Joe K Kizhakudan, Principal Scientist, Chennai.

Participants: 57

Platform: Zoom, youtube

Time: 3:15pm

The webinar was started with welcome speech and introduction of the Resource person by Miss. Rohini, Faculty member IIC. The Resource person delivered the talk on “Need to Restore and Revive Coastal Fisheries and Lively-hood by Habitat Restoration Programmes Farming and Orientation of Fishes: Importance of Coastal Ecosystems” to the both BA and B.Sc students.

The Resource person evacuated as Placing restoration efforts into a larger social context provides a more realistic evaluation of the range of values associated with restoration than does economic analysis alone. We identified five key benefits of restoring historical alewife fisheries and connectivity in Maine’s rivers. Together, these findings can inform historical ecology, SES research and new conservation, and discussions of the value of restoration.

The eminent resource person expressed Historical ecology has most often described long-term declines and the shifted baseline of human perceptions that results in a ratcheting down of expectations for natural systems. As successful restoration efforts increase, there is an opportunity to understand the ways in which the resultant growth in productivity and ecosystem services alter expectations of the value of nature. River restoration and the growth of small-scale municipal alewife fisheries in Maine represent a localized unshifting of baselines, as ecosystems recover and community members begin a process of collective remembering of the value of these ecosystems. Although communities lost the memory of the productive local fisheries that their rivers could support, a cultural connection to these fisheries persisted among some individuals, helping to spark a broader interest in restoring these fisheries. The reported feelings of local empowerment following successful restoration efforts were no doubt propagated by the rapid local recovery of alewife runs and the apparent resilience of this species.

The President of the webinar Dr. Uma V. Nerle, Principal KLE Society’s SK Arts college and HSK Science Institute Hubballi presented presidential remarks. The webinar was concluded by vote of thanks by the student co-ordinator Mr. Karthik S Patil.
